The redevelopment of the historic Richmond RSL (1922) into ‘Legacy Rise’ is more than a restoration; it is a conscious architectural conversation. Our design philosophy centers on a respectful yet dynamic dialogue between the cherished heritage fabric and a purposeful contemporary intervention.

The existing building’s language—its robust red brickwork, rhythmic window apertures, and formal symmetry—is meticulously preserved as the project’s anchor. These elements are not merely restored but become active compositional partners. The new forms, expressed through crisply detailed glass and textured concrete, are deliberately distinct yet harmoniously scaled. They engage in a play of solid and void, old and new, ensuring the heritage structure remains the unequivocal protagonist while gaining a relevant, modern counterpart.
Crucially, the design extends this dialogue to the program. The ground floor revitalizes the community heartbeat by retaining the Richmond RSL Club, complemented by new resident amenities. Below grade, a discreet parking solution alleviates street pressure. The evolution from 13 to 10 apartments, a refinement captured in our upcoming Section 72 amendment application, directly results from this ethos. It allows for more generous, light-filled interiors that better serve modern living, proving that thoughtful reduction can enhance both quality and legacy.

Legacy Rise stands as a testament to architectural continuity—where every new line drawn acknowledges a line already there, creating a cohesive future for a beloved past.
